MJ Attends Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate Completion of Sewer Improvements in Westport, NY

On Wednesday, July 23, MJ joined local and state officials in Westport, NY to celebrate the completion of a major sanitary sewer infrastructure project in Sewer District 1. MJ’s Carrie Dooley and Amy Nicholson attended the ribbon-cutting event on behalf of the firm, which led the engineering work that brought the project to life. 

The project included 6,000 linear feet of gravity sewer lining, upgrades to more than 100 manholes, lateral replacements, and the construction of a new pump station. The $3M project was funded through NYS EFC’s Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) and NYSDEC’s Water Quality Improvement Project (WQIP) programs. These improvements are essential to reducing inflow and infiltration and protecting water quality in nearby Lake Champlain. 

“This project strengthens the reliability of sewer service for over 400 residents by reducing the flow of stormwater and groundwater into the system,” said Maureen Coleman, President and CEO of the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation. “I want to recognize everyone who made this project a success. Your leadership and persistence are exactly what drives progress in places like Westport.” 

Westport Town Supervisor Ike Tyler expressed gratitude to the team involved: “I just want to start off by thanking everybody, especially the people who worked really hard on this project—our engineering firm, MJ. I really can’t emphasize enough on projects like this what they do, how they help the communities, and keep the cost down.”
