University at Albany, Dutch Quad Renovations
Albany, New York
As part of UAlbany's ongoing initiative to modernize student housing, MJ worked with the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and architecture+ for the complete renovation of Beverwyck and Schuyler residence halls on UAlbany’s Dutch Quad. MJ was responsible for all civil design services, including onsite utilities (potable water, fire protection, sanitary sewer and drainage), walkways, roadways, drives, parking areas, site grading, drainage, and landscaping. MJ developed a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and performed SWPPP inspections throughout construction.
The project has been designed to achieve LEED Gold Certification. MJ’s design included green infrastructure elements to mitigate downstream capacity issues within the existing drainage system and improve upon water quality entering downstream surface waters. The project incorporated porous asphalt, and infiltration basins to collect and infiltrate stormwater runoff.
