SUNY Plattsburgh, Wilson Hall
Plattsburgh, New York
MJ provided civil and structural design for the $15 million renovation and remodeling of SUNY Plattsburgh’s Wilson Hall residential building. The ultimate goal was to bring the facility up to current standards and codes, including building accessibility and space reconfiguration to provide improved pedestrian facilities and connectivity. Wilson Hall, with nine floors and 309 residents, is among the largest residence halls on campus.
Working closely with JMZ Architects and Planners, P.C., MJ designed the site layout to promote useable and accessible exterior spaces and walk. MJ designed sidewalks, grading, stormwater and drainage upgrades and landscaping. MJ designed a new main entrance canopy, exterior seat walls and courtyard renovations. Structural design involved removing a portion of the first-floor concrete framing to support an open staircase from the basement to the first floor, a main entrance canopy and exterior seat walls.
