Reconstruction of NYS Thruway Exits 23 & 24
Albany, New York
MJ provided daily construction inspection services for this pavement reconstruction and congestion relief project located between Exit 23 and Exit 24 on the New York State Thruway. The total length of the project was 6.9 miles, located in Albany County.
The project work included reconstruction of the pavement, with the addition of a 3rd lane in each direction; reconstruction of drainage facilities; flattening roadside slopes and other safety enhancements; vertical clearance improvements at overhead bridges; installation of 12 stormwater detention ponds to minimize the project’s impact to local bodies of water; 1.8 acres of new wetland creation to offset construction impacts to federal wetlands; construction of 11,000 feet of noise barriers in nine locations, as identified in the FEIS; and landscaping enhancements.
Over the three years of construction, MJ office engineers and inspectors were responsible for daily field inspection, maintaining project records and administration of all NYSTA specifications and guidelines for construction along this two-and-a-half-mile section. MJ also provided key liaison communication with the contractor, public and private sector utilities, the municipality, emergency services, school districts, community representatives and business owners.
