New Roundabout at Route 146 Bridge over the Mohawk River

Towns of Niskayuna & Clifton Park, New York

As a major team member on this design/build project, MJ designed the new, two-lane roundabout on the southern approach of the Rexford Bridge. The roundabout improved traffic flow and safety between the towns of Clifton Park and Niskayuna which are two of the fastest growing towns in the Capital Region.

The new roundabout was part of the extensive design/build project to replace the bridge that carries NY Route 146 over the Mohawk River. The project was completed under an aggressive design and construction schedule.

In addition to the new roundabout, MJ designed a new traffic signal and additional turn lanes for increased traffic capacity through the project corridor. The MJ team provided design for Work Zone Traffic Control during construction, as well as drainage design, landscape architecture, utility design and coordination, lighting design and layout, signing and striping, permit coordination and pedestrian facility design.

MJ was responsible for environmental permitting and designed a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan for the various phases of this large-scale construction project.

Over the past decade, MJ has emerged as a leader in roundabout design and has designed 17 modern roundabouts throughout New York State.
