Minnewaska State Park Preserve, Bridge Improvements

Kerhonkson, New York

MJ completed an evaluation and renovation design for this effort. The existing bridge was a single span concrete slab bridge with stone parapets, set upon concrete encased stone abutments. The stone parapets had slipped into a state of disrepair, with one of them completely falling off and requiring a temporary barrier to provide protection. MJ’s design included developing a proper fit and installation of the timber bridge railing on both sides of the bridge, designing a new wingwall cap that extended up from the concrete encasement, and designing the pile and timber lagging walls to allow for the proper set back width and grading behind timber approach railing.  The guide railing was specified to be a box rail section modified to include timber facing to match the aesthetic and natural beauty of the park.
