Jackie Jones & Sterling Forest Fire Towers

Ramapo & Tuxedo, New York

Under a term contract with the NYS Office of Park Recreation & Historic Preservation, MJ led the completion of a program report to assess the current condition and provide conceptual recommendations for repairs to the Jackie Jones and Sterling Forest fire towers. MJ performed 3D laser scanning and completed visual structural assessments to identify deficiencies and assess the extent of repairs that will be recommended for the fire towers. A final program report was developed with recommendations and associated costs.

MJ utilized LiDAR and UAV to effectively complete the fire tower assessments at the Sterling Forest and Harriman State Parks. Our team walked the fire towers with a wearable mobile scanner equipped with LiDAR sensors and 360-degree photography to deliver unparalleled visualizations and point clouds. MJ also employed UAV technology to document conditions in inaccessible areas. The LiDAR data was extracted into 3D BIM models for further analysis. The existing conditions data and imagery were imported into MJ’s web-based interface, MJ4D. This immersive digital documentation has allowed the client and MJ’s engineers to explore a real-world digital twin directly from a web browser and will be essential for future renovation efforts.
