Clifton Common Veteran's Memorial Enhancements
Clifton Park, NY
MJ led the design initiative to enhance the Veterans Memorial at Clifton Common. The existing memorial was expanded to include a Veteran Walk of Honor around the granite obelisk that commemorates those who served from the town. The walk is composed of large pavers, with each paver providing space for the names of local veterans, their unit, and where they served to be engraved. The paver layout, the concrete banding, and score lines follow a radial pattern that centers on the granite obelisk creating a star-like geometry and focal-point. A brick veneer seat-wall arcs around one side of the walk providing both a symbolic enclosure and a comfortable place to sit. The redesigned landscaping surrounding three new flagpoles is low-maintenance and bloom red, white, and blue in the weeks before and after Memorial Day.
