Arlington Main Street Redesign Initiative

Dutchess County, New York

Working with the Dutchess County Transportation Council (DCTC), MJ performed a feasibility study for potential improvements to the corridor that would enhance its walkability, calm traffic, and improve its appearance for the community’s economic vitality. MJ assisted the County in identifying a detailed, implementable conceptual design for Main Street. This included identifying the issues, costs, and actions that would need to be considered to make the corridor a more complete street – a facility that promotes safe, comfortable, efficient, and convenient travel for people of all ages and abilities, and for all types of transportation, including walking, bicycling, riding the bus, and driving, as well as one that supports local businesses and economic development.

MJ has provided mobile mapping services to assist in development of the plan. MJ drove its mobile LiDAR mapper along Main Street and all neighboring roads in the Town of Poughkeepsie to collect topographic survey information and photo scans which would be used during the planning process and at community outreach and committee meetings. Once collected, MJ’s technicians developed a 3D web-based viewer for direct interaction with the scan data and photos from each scan.
