
MJ Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Land Surveying, P.C. is seeking a dynamic and motivated planner to join our planning group in Fishkill, NY. This position offers an exciting opportunity for professional growth within MJ’s planning team, with a focus on municipal planning.
As a full-time planner, you will primarily support Planning Boards and Zoning Boards of Appeals for our municipal clients, while also contributing to long-term planning initiatives such as comprehensive plans, downtown revitalization, and waterfront redevelopment. Our planners collaborate closely with MJ’s multidisciplinary team, including transportation, GIS, site/civil engineering, landscape architecture, and water/wastewater engineering—to develop consensus-driven, practical plans and support our municipal client needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review municipal land use applications and prepare detailed written reports
Conduct SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review Act) assessments for municipal land use proposals
Perform advanced planning work on a variety of projects, including research, writing, and document preparation
Provide professional planning support to client communities and municipal boards on diverse land use and zoning matters
Organize and lead meetings with advisory boards, committees, community stakeholders, and elected officials
Attend evening meetings as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in planning or a related field
Bachelor’s degree in planning or a closely related discipline required; Master’s degree and AICP certification preferred
Strong technical writing skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, and capability to collaborate effectively with clients, project teams, and colleagues
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required
Experience with SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review Act) processes required
Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship

Salary Range: $85,000 - $120,000
