POSITION SUMMARY:

MJ is actively seeking a plan examiner / inspector to join our team to assist with current and exciting future projects that support municipal building departments. This job offering provides an exciting opportunity for the ideal candidate to grow and advance in MJ’s civil engineering group, focusing on supporting building departments in the review of building permit plans and inspecting completed work. The focus area of this position is the civil aspect of building permit applications (utility connections, land grading, and stormwater management). We are seeking a motivated candidate with a strong interest in municipal plan reviews and construction inspections who is well organized, resourceful, and creative. As a plan examiner / inspector, you will work within the civil engineering group in collaboration with municipal building departments to review permit plans and to inspect completed work to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations and laws. The primary areas of work are within the lower Hudson Valley.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Perform code reviews of plans

· Perform code inspections during and following construction

· Prepare written reports

· Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally to resolve code comments

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Valid Driver's License

· 2+ years of relevant experience in plan reviews and inspections, municipal code experience preferred

· Associate’s degree in architecture, engineering, or construction related fields desired but not required when appropriate experience demonstrated

· NYS Code Enforcement Certification and/or ICC Certification desired but not required

· Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel)

· Technical writing, solid verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively with clients, project teams, and colleagues

· Must be a U.S. citizen or be eligible to work without an employer sponsorship

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

· Traveling to and from job sites

· Work within the construction industry

Pay is based on applicant’s ability/experience and will be rated accordingly. We offer a very competitive benefit package.
