S.T.E.A.M Garden

Albany, New York

MJ is working with Lacey Thaler Riley Wilson on the renovation and adaptive reuse of a vacant school. The former catholic school and convent dates back to 1905 and for many years was an important part of the Central Avenue neighborhood in downtown Albany. The building is being transformed into a business incubator which will include affordable work spaces for startups and entrepreneurs, "learning labs" focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (S.T.E.A.M.).

MJ provided structural and site/civil engineering services for conceptual design development and is currently providing structural services for detailed design.  MJ designed reinforcments in the basement at the mechanical room to support deteriorated steel and concrete framing.

The project includes the exterior restoration of the masonry and stone exterior, restoration of wood windows and doors, interior restoration and renovation, and the addition of an elevator.
